A new identity for Study Association MAD
The Study Association I was a part of, was in the process of redefining itself with a completely new board and the start of a new study year. Part of this was a new visual identity. We wanted a logo which conveyed passion and strength and which got peoples attention.
For this I designed a logo while keeping the mindset that it should convey the same visual message as a family weapon. Family weapons are often based on a shield, only I thought that would be too outdated, so I took a round shield as my base. This lead to a basic round logo, from which I created sublogos for each commission within the study association.
The family of logos conveys a sense of unity. The red color grabs your attention and is a powerful color. And finally, the circular shape means it’s applicable in a lot of ways.
MAD Travel is always on the road. They go from place to place, to get students acquainted with different cultures. The arrows in the logo are based on the all too familiar arrows in subways around the world.
MAD Travel is there to provide the students with new experiences outside of the classroom.
MAD Event doesn’t just plan parties, but also plans interesting speakers and appearances by professionals in the field to inspire students. Because of that reason I decided to place both these aspects in the logo: On the one side a lecture, and on the other great party.
MAD Event is there to stimulate the student socially and intellectually.
MAD PR makes sure the students get to know everything they should. No party or guestspeaker can do without a good propagandamachine which creates a positive buzz about the upcoming events.
MAD PR is the voice of the study association towards the students. Because of that, it is an essential part of the study association. MAD PR is there to get students excited about upcoming events.
MAD Media is more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it. The professionals of the mediateam are there whenever there’s something interesting going on to make sure nothing goes undocumented. They are especially important to show people what was going on afterwards.
MAD Intro makes sure the new students start their new study with a healthy passion. In the week leading up to the first week of school, the new students start their journey to becoming a true CMD student with a kickass introduction camp. The campfire in the logo stands for the connection between people the camp creates. This is because the logo has to be able to be used regardless of the theme of the camp, and the campfire captures the essence of what every camp is all about: bringing together new people.
MAD Music organises the MAD Music Sessions. During these sessions everyone is free to bring their instrument and jam with eachother. No judging, just fun.
